The beacon data comes from OpenStreetMap (OSM). Currently around 52,000 beacons are recorded, from lighthouses to buoys. Note that buoys and small beacons are only visible at higher zoom levels.
Faulty, incomplete or outdated data discovered? The good thing about OSM is that everybody can contribute. Click a beacon to open its info window. It includes a link to the corresponding OSM dataset. There you can correct or complete the data.
